Google Shopping Express aimed at being a convenient alternative to the constant ritual of making shopping lists and going to the store. It was a delivery service which let you shop from local stores in one convenient website only to have it delivered right to your door. I was the senior design lead on this year long project which helped launch this ambitious product.
Illustration
At the time of this project, Google was making strides toward making flat illustration a core part of their visual language, so we were immediately drawn there to help with our visual storytelling of the experience. We spent countless hours creating illustrations representing every shopping category the product supoported as well as larger hero illustrations to help communicate the value of the product.
Product Design
I worked closely with internal teams at Google to develop the user experience and product features. Being an external vendor came with it's own set of challenges. An ever-changing product scope led to some difficulty pinning down the target, and interneal teams were myopically focused on fuction and features over brand experience, which is essential for online shopping.
The Result
I helped to create one of the first digital shopping and delivery experiences out there. It was easy-to-use, richly branded, and ahead of it's time. The program has since been shuttered, but it's impact can still be seen in our daily lives.
